The Big Preacher

Ever been in a service where the choir starts singing, the Spirit gets thick and the order of service goes in the trash?!  When I was a kid, we would always get excited when dad didn’t get to preach.  Maybe that didn’t sound right… Sorry, Pops.  What I mean is, we always loved it when “The Big Preacher” showed up!  People leaving their seat, hitting the aisle and falling into the altar for no other reason than the Spirit of God moved them in that direction.  Man, those were the days.  I’m not suggesting that all of those days are in the past and gone forever but they certainly did leave their mark on this ole boy as a kid.  Hey, when God wants to talk, what else needs to be said?  After all, God is the first One who ever preached the gospel.

Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you shall go, And you shall eat dust All the days of your life. And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel. Gen 3:14-15

Yep, that’s my God talking!!!  The sermon is enough to get ecstatic over but do you recognize at whom the sermon was directed?  The first presentation of the gospel was delivered by God to the Devil himself!  Can you even fathom the love of God?  No sooner did the residents of Eden seemingly destroy this wonderful plan that God had for all of humanity than God swooped to our rescue with the promise of a redeemer!  One who would take away the sins of the world!  A Savior whose sacrifice was not only adequate to clean up the mess made in the garden but is more than sufficient to wipe away any mess you or I have made of the lives God so graciously granted to us.  By the way, Jesus never was plan B.  Who knows what else was mentioned as the three stood huddled discussing their plan for mankind?  I can only imagine that before God thunderously shouted “BREAK” He winked at His son and said, “Are You ready for this?” Christ smiled and wiped away a tear as He replied, “I’ll go long”. Yes God does indeed love you and me and His provision to deliver us was put in place well before deliverance was needed.  If God truly does cherish us to that degree, it shouldn’t leave any wonder that Satan would wish to cause us harm.  Let me stop right here and be sure that each of you who have ever prayed that the Lord Jesus would forgive you of your sins, therefore becoming the sons and daughters of God, recognize; He considers the relationship He has with you not only good but marvelous.  With that said, can you understand why Satan would spend every moment of every day harassing the child of God?  Satan simply despises what God adores.

There’s nothing more comforting than to know that our maker cherishes us.  I mean we are literally the apple of His eye.  And because of that, we are therefore the targets of the adversary.

Be sober, be vigilant; because  your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. I Peter 5:8

Stay the course, my friend.  “The Big Preacher” has made the way for us to live this day, and every one that follows, in victory!

About Chris Allman

I'm one of the millions who have experienced the repercussion of my sinful past. Unlike many, through Christ, I have recognized that the path before me does not have to be determined by the path behind. I have experienced the sweet forgiveness of God and have therefore chosen to walk in that forgiveness. Forgiving self is a day to day task and I believe that's why His mercies are new every morning. I pray that this daily reminder that we can choose to begin living today like we wish we'd lived in the past will be a solace for many who struggle with those things they wish they hadn't done.

I definitely remember “those days!” It seems that too many churches these days are concerned with keeping the service “dignified,” when what we need to do is open our hearts and allow the Holy Spirit to truly move amongst us. I’m not talking about empty emotion or a show to make folks feel more godly, but REAL, HONEST movement of the Holy Spirit! Thank you again for a wonderful reminder of who we are in Christ. We seem to give too much attention to that old deceiver without standing firm in the promise of a living God, who loves us more than we will ever comprehend on this side of Heaven. Now, if that won’t make us shout “GLORY,” we must be dead without realizing it! Bless you, Brother Chris! 🙂

Wow…that puts it all in perspective. Keep those blogs coming. I loom forward to reading them. God has really blessed you not only with a magnificent voice but the ability to write inspiring, uplifting words.

Thank you so much. I love to sing and am thankful for that gift but writing fulfills me in a different way. It allows me to share a part of me with folks with the hopes of touching, even changing a life. Please share my blog with your family and friends! If you haven’t signed up to follow my blog via email, please do so!!! Blessings.

Wow! You’ve awakened wonderful memories! I was only a child attending a revival when the Holy Spirit took me to that life-changing place. I “joined the church” the very next Sunday; that was back when you could join without attending the prep classes that are now in practice. Blessings, Brother Chris! IN CHRIST!

I’m blessed to be in a place where that still happens every once in a while, as recently as last month. But it does seem like that sort of thing is going away. The question is…”Who Moved?” The Big Preacher ain’t gone nowhere.

Another winner, I remember well those days when the Hold Spirit was given right of way in the services. Thanks again for the truth from God’s word.

Good times! I remember when dad just said, “Who wants to come back tomorrow evening?” and we had church for like a week.

Chris, may I tell you that I no longer hit the snooze button two or three times. i now get up a little eary and head to the computer to see what you have shared. Great words and greater truths – so much more encouraging than starting my day with the morning news. Thanks. . . Hope you have a great day!

To think that I am able to be used to bless your day is an honor! I wish I could make me get up earlier 🙂

  7. I was thinking about Lawrence Rudd just the other day and how I miss him and all the ones who let the Holy Spirit spontaneously move them to testify about God’s goodness. Even as a little kid, I got so excited to hear people testify! We need to bring that back – we have so much to thank and praise God for. Not the least of which is…He knows and He still adores. #wowmoment

I loved to hear him go! His kind are a thing of the past, I’m afraid. Loved to watch Mr. Manness (Hope that’s spelled right) get excited and run! If I laughed when that happened as a child, it’s because it made me happy, not because I thought it was funny. Miss those days!
